Strict regulations on recyclable plastic packaging

Plastic packaging designed for recycling must comply with important guidelines. These guidelines mainly concern the use of non-carbon-containing colours, minimum dimensions and a mono-material character. In addition, recyclable plastic packaging must be made of mono-material PE (recycling infrastructure exists, recycling code LDPE 4) or mono-material PP (recycling infrastructure is supported, recycling code PP 5). Eco-label: designed for recycling

All of DaklaPack's recyclable plastic packaging carries the “Designed for recycling” label. You can find this on the product page. All products that can be recycled with the current recycling infrastructure or are suitable for the expected improvements to the recycling structure carry this eco-label. The following criteria are associated with this label:

The product is made from monomaterial LDPE or PP: different types of plastic materials have very different properties. For example, the melting point can vary, which makes it very complicated and sometimes even impossible to recycle packaging made from different materials.

The product colour is non-carbon black: Near-Infrared (NIR) sorting machines are not yet able to detect carbon black packaging, which means that packaging material in this shade is sorted for destruction. Light-coloured plastic packaging is preferred during recycling because it ensures a neutral-coloured end product.

The product does not contain any hard plastic parts: during the waste sorting process, hard and soft types of plastic are separated from each other. This is because they are recycled in different ways. If a plastic packaging contains both hard and soft parts, it may end up in the wrong recycling stream.

The product is larger than 5x5 cm: smaller plastic packaging often cannot be detected, which means it is sorted for destruction.
