Eco-label: designed for recycling (papier)

DaklaPack's recyclable paper packaging material is in most cases marked with the 'Designed for recycling' label. You can find this on the product page. It is important to stress that the eco-label does not guarantee that the product is actually recycled. The recycling of a paper product depends on a long chain that starts with sustainable product design and ends with effective local recycling infrastructures.

However, products with this eco-label can be recycled within existing paper recycling infrastructures. The following criteria are associated with this label:

• The weight of the product consists of at least 95% paper: as a rule, up to 5% of the weight of a paper product may consist of other materials. The exact threshold varies by country, but we use the highest relevant threshold for our labelling to ensure that our paper products are recyclable in different countries.
• Does the product have a coating? If so, it should be water-soluble and only applied to one side: coatings ensure that the paper material is easily broken down into single fibres during the recycling process.
• The product's adhesives, if present, are water-soluble or shape-retaining: to ensure that the recycling process of paper products runs smoothly, it is important that the products have adhesives that can be easily removed. This prevents the recycling process from being delayed by having to remove non-paper materials.
• The product does not contain lacquer: lacquer in paper products cannot be separated during the recycling process. This lowers the quality of recycled paper.
• The product uses inks that are not water-soluble, not heat-sensitive and mineral-free: the right choice of ink ensures that the recycling process produces minimally discoloured recycled paper that can be used for many future applications.
• The product contains no added plant materials (e.g. non-pulped materials from agricultural waste).
