Compostable bags

Are you looking for an eco-friendly grip bag? Then you have come to the right place at DaklaPack. This is because we have a range of environmentally friendly and biodegradable bags.

What are compostable bags?

DaklaPack's compostable bags are the first industrially compostable grip bags made entirely of PLA. PLA is an industrially compostable material made from corn that is compostable according to the EN13432 standard.

Made entirely from renewable materials, this grip bag can be disposed of with organic waste. They are designed to biodegrade. By using renewable raw materials, we save valuable, finite fossil fuels.

Moreover, maize can be grown very regionally and is considered an efficient feedstock. Industrial compostable materials can be an ideal solution to capture food waste to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The use of compostable bags

Compostable bags are eco-friendly packaging solutions used in various business sectors. In the food industry, they are often used for packaging biodegradable products such as organic fruits and vegetables, contributing to sustainable packaging practices. In the hospitality industry, compostable bags offer an environmentally responsible choice for packaging takeaway meals and snacks.

They are also used in the retail sector to offer eco-friendly carrier bags to customers. Moreover, companies in the horticulture sector can use compostable bags for packaging seeds and garden products, which fits with a green and sustainable approach. Compostable bags contribute to eco-friendly initiatives in various business sectors, while also helping to reduce plastic waste.

How do compostable bags work?

The compostable grip bags are resealable through the grip closure, also the grip closure is made of PLA. During the production of PLA, we see a 60% reduction in CO2 emissions and a 50% reduction in non-renewable resources when compared to conventional plastics like PET, for example (NatureWorks LCA, 2014).

The grip bags are resealable with the integrated grip closure and can be reused several times before being discarded. The compostable grip bags are ideal for dry food and non-food applications.

What is PLA?

Polylactic acid or polylactide are the names for the thermoplastic polymers of lactic acid. We abbreviate this with PLA (short for English polylactic acid). PLA is often used as a plastic substitute because it is biodegradable. This is because it is made from renewable plant-based raw materials (maize starch or sugar cane).

Tips for handling compostable bags

  • Compostable plastics, including compostable grip bags, belong with residual waste and not with organic or plastic waste. So throw your compostable bags and other biodegradable or biodegradable packaging with your residual waste.
  • You cannot throw compostable plastic on the street or the roadside. Even though the grip bags are compostable, they do not decompose here. Compostable plastic is therefore not a solution for litter.
  • Do not throw your compostable bags on your own compost heap. Here, the temperature is usually not high enough for the plastic to compost.
